Fashion Find: Beauty and the Boss

Beauty and the Boss

Greetings Socialites! Today’s Fashion Find is brought to you by the letter B; as in Beauty Boss! One thing I’ve learned from being in the corporate and fashion arena is you can always look professional without sacrificing your personal fashion sense. I found this amazing lavender, faux wrap midi dress on one of my Etsy.com raids and it is an example of how you can be a beauty and a boss at the same time! And she’s available for *drum roll*…$14 (click here to purchase). This is what we like to call “beauty without breaking the bank!”

Boss dress

This dress definitely doesn’t skimp on style options so here’s one way you can rock it and own it. For a day at the office, we decided to keep it trendy with this maroon toned blazer (available here), which can be turned into a cropped blazer with the flick of a zipper. We also added a neutral belt (available here) to cinch in that waist and decided to go neutral for the shoe (available here) as well. Of course, with a v neckline we had to add a pop of color with this awesome necklace (available here), sprinkled with an apple green and a hint of yellow.  And no socialite should go anywhere without a chic bag (available here), like this tan one we found at Modcloth. Keep in mind that this look can easily be a “Day to Night” outfit by simply slipping off the blazer.

So, Fashion Mavens, be sure to remember that a Beauty can DEFINITELY be a boss! Happy Findings!

Fashion Find: Springs in Soho!

Springs in Soho

My fellow fashionistas…Spring 2013 cometh!!! Yes…It’s here! One of the best things about Spring, is you can start airing out those dresses you’ve been dying to wear, but couldn’t, all winter! And if you are like us, freshening up with new pieces is always an option. For me personally, I LOVE a good vintage find because its a great way to bring new meaning to reinvention without breaking the bank. Which brings me to this FABULOUS dress I found on Etsy.

Rogue Girl Vintage, an Etsy shop, is selling this amazingly amazing frock for…wait for it…$34 (Purchase here). That’s a huge steal! Want a style option? Here’s one, out of the vast spectrum of possibilities.

Nautical dress from Springs in Soho

One of the best features of the dress is, its mix of print, bold red and subtle blue trims. Though, the dress is a focal piece in itself, don’t let that hold you back from taking bold to the next level. Here we’ve paired it with a green belt, to cinch in and bring attention to the gorgeous waistline and decided to play on the blue by adding a blue cocktail ring. Earrings are kept simple, but again a pop of color like a yellow, which will accentuate that red in the dress. Now that we have the colors of the rainbow, we made sure to keep the bag and shoes at a neutral tone, which aids in cohesion.

So mavens, pull those dresses out, head to your local coffee spot and make like you spend Springs in Soho!

Glitter Shoes using Mod Podge

glitter shoes
I’m so excited for this DIY project! I wasn’t expecting it, but when I saw examples online, I knew my life just wouldn’t be complete until I tried it.

I picked up Martha Stewart glitter in hematite from Marshalls for only $1.49 and bought Mod Podge in glossy. I had never used Mod Podge before, but after reading about all the great things you can do with it, I now want to Mod Podge EVERYTHING!!!

The project…GLITTER SHOES!

shoes2These are a pair of my favorite shoes because the heels were this great silver. Much to my dismay, the heel got ruined. I have no idea how it happened, but the streets of NYC are brutal on shoes. I didn’t want to get rid of them, so they have been living in my closet unused for over a year. I knew this project was going to be perfect for my heels.

What you need:shoes3
1. Fine glitter
2. Mod Podge Glossy
3. Synthetic brush
4. Plastic bowl
5. Sandpaper or nail file
6. Optional – masking or painters tape

In a bowl, mix a little Mod Podge with the glitter. I got a huge glob out when I first poured, but you want the consistency to be like cottage cheese. You can use tape to protect the part of the shoes you don’t want glitter on. I like to live dangerously, so I went freehand.
Note: If you’re working with patent leather or a smooth surface, you should rub sandpaper first to give your glue better sticking power.

shoes5Brush the mixture directly to your shoes. You may need to a few coats to get the desired result. Let dry. You can also paint the glue over to further protect the glitter. shoes6

Boom, done!

Tina Turner on Vogue Cover

She’s simply the best and at 73, she is STILL the best as she graces to cover of Vogue Germany. This is the star’s first time being on any Vogue cover….which makes us wonder what took Vogue so long.

Look Book: Polka Dots & Faux Fur

Polka Dots & Faux Fur

This socialite hates the cold. The only silver-lining that I can come up with is cold weather layering! Here’s a few of my favorite pieces for winter: polka dots & faux fur! Pair that those with skinny jeans either a motorcycle boot or a ballet flat and some classic red lips. You’re good to go for any casual outing. None of the items are over 100 smackeroos, lest you forget we are budget socialites.

Disclaimer: The Tory Burch Flat is actually $106.26 but 106 doesn’t have the same ring to it. My Bad.
